Most general ERP products treat manufacturing as an add-on module: a bill of materials screen and a basic works order, built for a distributor's finance team rather than a factory. ✦ Honest answer
If you make a relatively standard product with fairly linear routings, a standard ERP's MRP module - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NetSuite, Odoo Manufacturing - will usually do the job faster and cheaper than a bespoke build. The MRP logic in these products is mature and well tested against exactly this kind of manufacturing.
The case for extending or building bespoke gets stronger the further you sit from that standard case: process manufacturing with variable yields, make-to-order with heavy configuration, or a shop floor that needs to capture data in a way the vendor's screens don't support.
